About the 2017 Host Organizations:
Life science sectors from clinical research, pharmaceutical discovery and medical technology, to digital health and medical devices, all are integrated into our organization and in all that we represent, ensuring that no life sciences sector is working in isolation. We endeavour that all we embody intersects in a comprehensive, complementary and coordinated fashion.
Throughout the year, LifeSciences BC undertakes numerous programs and projects in support of these sectors. These include; public policy initiatives, facilitating linkages between global industry and our local organizations, raising the profile of our industry locally, nationally and internationally, while facilitating investment and global partnering opportunities. By connecting innovation to the larger global community, we continue to build our bioeconomy and nurture economic development with a shared commitment to make our life sciences cluster, our ecosystem, one of the best in the world.
The Centre of Excellence for Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF Centre) is a not-for-profit biomarker development engine focused on producing high-value omics-derived laboratory tests to better predict, diagnose and prognose diseases with major unmet needs. PROOF Centre embraces a cross-disciplinary team of computational and life scientists, clinicians, economists, commercialization leaders, technology experts, and health system advisors committed to harnessing the information that resides in molecular features like mRNA, microRNA, proteins, metabolites and epigenetic marks through an advanced computational pipeline of analytics and systems science, ultimately rendering uniquely useful clinical tests for patient management and discriminative signatures to support effective drug development.
PROOF Centre embraces local, national and international partners from academia, health care, government, industry and the public, all concerned with improving health and reducing the enormous socioeconomic burden of organ failure. As an independent not-for-profit society established in 2008 by competitive funding from the Networks of Centres of Excellence Secretariat under the Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (NCE CECR) Program, and funded by many public and private sector organizations, the PROOF Centre is co-hosted by the University of British Columbia and Providence Health Care in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
